What Virtual Services Actually Look Like

We know "virtual consulting" can feel vague. Here's what it looks like in practice.

Every engagement starts with a discovery conversation — typically 45 to 60 minutes over video call — where we get to know your organization, your challenges, and what success looks like for you. From there, we build a scope of work that's specific to your situation, not a templated package pulled off a shelf.

Depending on the engagement, our work together might include:

  • Video-based facilitation for board retreats, strategic planning sessions, or staff trainings

  • Asynchronous deliverables — frameworks, policies, assessments, curriculum — developed collaboratively through shared documents

  • Structured check-ins at defined milestones rather than open-ended weekly calls that drain everyone's calendar

  • Real-time working sessions where we build things together rather than just talking about them

We use straightforward tools — Zoom or Google Meet for calls, Google Drive or shared Airtable bases for collaborative work, and whatever your team is already comfortable with when possible. We don't require you to learn a new platform to work with us.

Can Virtual Work Be As Effective As In-Person?

Honestly — it depends on the work, and we'll tell you upfront if something genuinely needs to happen in a room.

For most capacity-building work — strategic planning, policy development, curriculum design, board governance, program frameworks — virtual is fully effective. The deliverables are the same. The thinking is the same. The relationship, built intentionally over time, is the same.

Where in-person has an edge is in high-stakes facilitation moments: a difficult board conversation, a full-day staff retreat, a community engagement session. For those, we'll be honest about the tradeoff and help you decide what makes sense given your budget and context.

We won't oversell virtual as a perfect substitute for everything. But for the vast majority of what we do, it works — and works well.
